The Yard BLOG

Enter through the gate, and you immediately understand that you're in an environment unlike any other in the region: historic brick houses and elegant, Industrial-era loft buildings sit comfortably next to modern glass structures.

Century-old sycamore trees line the main thoroughfares. Jogging and walking paths wind along the riverfront and past the grand warships docked in the reserve basin. Parks and open space offer quiet respites and gathering places for all kinds of recreational activities.

Why The Navy Yard

Built as a dynamic urban campus filled with a rich history, it's little wonder that trendsetting and iconic hometown brands like GSK, Urban Outfitters, Inc., and Tasty Baking Company have chosen to call the Navy Yard home. Our tenants continually tout the fact that this singular environment has contributed to their ability to attract one of the most diverse, dynamic workforces in the region. With over 7.5 million square feet of space occupied and in development, the Navy Yard offers tenants a wide range of building and space types. And if you still can't find exactly what you're looking for, there is a total of more than 13.5 million square feet of real estate available for historic renovations, and build-to-suit opportunities for office, research and development, light and heavy industrial and manufacturing, distribution, and recreational use.

With over 13,000 hungry employees to feed, the Navy Yard is also emerging as a South Philly dining destination. Employees and visitors have a variety of cuisine choices, ranging from delicious quinoa salads, to Philly-famous roast pork sandwiches, to gourmet meals from James Beard Award-winning chef Marc Vetri. Most recently, Philadelphia Inquirer’s restaurant critic Craig LaBan called The Navy Yard a “hot venue” with its seasonal Lunch Truck Lineup program, which brings the city’s best gourmet food trucks together to serve the hungry masses.

The campus hosts many of the region’s biggest public events, providing the finish line for both the Broad Street Run – the nation’s largest 10-mile road race – and the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia 3-Day Race for the Cure 60-mile walk. The Navy Yard is also located adjacent to 340-acre FDR Park, offering a wide variety of recreational activities, including tennis, golf, and fishing, and from the Sports Complex – home to Philadelphia’s professional sports teams and host to more than 380 events a year.
